About the President
Dr. Jonathan Gueverra
Florida Keys Community College’s Sixth President
With island roots, a New England education, and an impressively effective track record in numerous leadership and faculty positions at nearly a dozen colleges, Dr. Jonathan Gueverra is a perfect fit to be Florida Keys Community College’s sixth President.
Since 2009, Gueverra served as Chief Executive Officer of the Community College of the District of Columbia. He was recruited from his former position as Provost at Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria Campus to lead the creation of D.C.’s first community college, which was built from existing programs under the capital city’s university. In three years under his leadership, enrollment tripled, programs and locations expanded and over $10 million of outside funds were raised.
Gueverra has a Doctorate of Education and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts, as well as a bachelor’s degree from Providence College and an associate degree from Newbury College.
Gueverra has served on numerous boards, including the American Association of Community Colleges, the New England Educational Assessment Network, the Alexandria and Arlington Chamber of Commerce, and Washington DC’s Economic Development Partnership Board and Workforce Investment Council. In 2008, he was awarded a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from Wentworth Institute of Technology and a “Highly Commended Award” at the Literati Network Awards for Excellence.
Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Gueverra and his wife of 30 years, Josephine, have three children: two grown daughters, Joy and Joanne, and a 14-year-old son Julius.
